“Mondays” by Caroline Workman

When my mom told me of how persistently I used to want to be an artist when I was small, I felt so far removed from that little girl. I have always found joy in creating with my hands, but with age I have felt weighted by senses of perfectionism and have struggled to manifest the art I strive to create. To try and reconnect with art, I spend every Monday afternoon at a local Ottawa art studio. The studio offers different workshops, but I continue to find myself drawn to the clay wheel. With time, I have become familiar with the routine of throwing and creating ceramic pieces on the wheel. Spending my time in this space, becoming familiar with the sounds of the manager saying hello, the phone ringing on the wall, the rushing water from a broken sink, and the quiet stretching of clay as it is rolled out, has helped me find joy in independent activities and reconnecting to the little girl wishing for artistry.

Caroline Workman

Hi! My name is Caroline Workman and I am in my fourth year of an honors degree in Communications and Media Studies with a Business Minor at Carleton University.  I thrive when creating and am passionate about exploring new avenues of creative work such as ceramics, audio production, and photography. After graduation, I hope to pursue a creative and external communications role where I can use my skills to be part of a larger impact.
