“check, check”: a new voice on TPOS

Greetings! My name is Sama Russel, and I'm a student at Carleton University studying Communications and Media Studies.

I’ve always had an interest in storytelling and podcasting, and when I discovered Professor Andrisani’s podcast The Place of Sound, I knew I had to get involved. Since January, I’ve been hosting and producing episodes of the show while also looking after the show’s Instagram account (@theplaceofsound).

Being presented with the opportunity to work on this project has been such a great experience and I’ve learned so much about the ways in which sounds affect our lives. I’m so happy to continue producing and explore more topics in sound throughout this summer.

In addition to working on The Place of Sound, I also have my own podcast called B4 the Blowup. In this podcast, I interview up-and-coming artists around the world to learn about their stories and ask questions about their creative processes. My goal with B4 the Blowup is to showcase the diversity of music globally and help listeners discover new artists and genres they may not have otherwise been exposed to. I get to express my passion for music and share my thoughts on the latest trends and developments in music.

I’m excited to continue my passion for storytelling and podcasting through both of these shows. If you’d like to listen to some of the episodes I produced this past semester for The Place of Sound check out episodes 43, 44, 45, and/or 46 (and there’s more on the way!).

Thank you for taking the time to read this blog and I hope you join me in learning about the many ways sounds affect our day-to-day lives.
