behind the mic: get to know Natalie Hall

Hey everyone! My name is Natalie Hall, and if you’ve tuned into The Place of Sound before, you may have already heard my voice. I’ve been working on the show since April 2024, but I’ve been a fan for much longer. I first discovered The Place of Sound in my second year at Carleton University, when I declared Communication and Media Studies as my second major alongside Journalism. I was eager to see what kind of work was coming out of the communications department, and when I found The Place of Sound, I instantly fell in love with the kind of storytelling it showcased.

I developed a passion for audio journalism while working on Midweek, an Ottawa-based current affairs show, which later led me to create Easier Said Than Done, an arts and culture radio show on CKCU 93.1 FM. My experience in audio production and storytelling naturally brought me into the role of producer and host, but working on The Place of Sound has pushed me to engage more deeply with my community, pay closer attention to sound, and expand my understanding of Communication and Media Studies in ways I never could have imagined. I hope listening does the same for you!

I’m so excited to continue bringing you more student work, interesting sounds from the Ottawa area, and many thoughtful interviews. Thank you for tuning in—and as always, happy listening!
