“Home is a Place of Feeling” by Xiaoyi Chen

For this project, I invited my dad Jing Chen as my interviewee, and the interview process took place at home.

My dad, Jing Chen

In this audio portrait, he talked about what is home in his perspective and shared his feeling of home and an unforgettable memory of home. He believes home is a place where he feels warm, happy, secure and love. In his view, home is a harbour that can always protect people from dangerous.

He thinks the feeling of home gets the strongest at the Spring Festival, the process of making dumplings with family members together is one of the most warm and meaningful parts in his memory.

Every Spring Festival, my family has a tradition of getting together and making dumplings together. We will put a coin in one dumpling. The person who eats the dumpling with a coin will receive good luck through the whole year.

After this interview, I have a better understanding of what does home mean to him.
