“Ripples of Resilience: Navigating the Inner Tides” by Lucas Turnbull

In this soundscape composition, I revisited Mooney's Bay, where I previously trained for Canoe/Kayak with Team Canada. This return occurred four years after I left the sport, and I chose to immerse myself once again in this familiar environment. The soundscape presented here explores the emotions I experience while on the water and how they have evolved since my active participation in the sport.

I enjoy being on the water and paddling alongside my friends. It brings me a sense of calmness and weightlessness as if all my problems vanish. Initially, paddling clouded my connection with water, replacing tranquillity with anxiety and stress, particularly concerning upcoming races and qualifiers for international competitions.

Upon returning to this environment after a break, I discovered that despite the negative associations I had developed, I still found a sense of calm. It required a shift in perspective for me to rediscover my love for the water.

Hello, my name is Lucas Turnbull, I am a recent graduate from Carleton University in the Communications and Media Studies program. In my final semester, I had the opportunity to enroll in the media production workshop, allowing me to test the boundaries of my creativity and explore personal stories in innovative ways. This course enabled me to combine my passion for video creation and apply it to audio storytelling, revealing new possibilities for narrative expression. I hope you enjoy the work I created during the workshop and check out the other projects on this site!
